Cancerbackup and Macmillan Cancer Support have merged
Well it's all change here at Cancerbackup this month as we have merged with Macmillan Cancer Support to become one charity. While it's the end of an era, it's also the beginning of another. The decision to merge was made so that both charities could acheive the aim of reaching as many people affected by cancer as possible. Cancerbackup won't exisit as a charity in its own right anymore but will be part of Macmillan. We're really excited by the chance to develop our services and get our information 'out there' to more people.
But I can't pretend it isn't a little bit daunting. Having worked in a samll charity for a long time, where everyone knows everyone, it feels strange to become part of an organisation as big as Macmillan. One thing's for sure though - there's a real commitment from everyone involved to make sure that people with cancer (and their friends and families) have the best possible support and access to information. So while it's all change, it's also 'business as usual' (a phrase that's become a bit of a mantra to us in the last few weeks). So let's raise a glass (well, ok, a cup of coffee) to the old Cancerbackup and welcome the new era...here's to an exciting future.
