Breast cancer

Breast cancer

Hi I had surgery last May, and completed radiotherapy in Sept last year. I feel very well, but am still getting niggling sensations in my breast - it is not quite pain but I am aware of it. My surgeon saw me in Jan of this year, and says all is fine, but I am not sure. Has anyone else experienced this?

Hi, i used to get that

Hi, i used to get that before i got my nipple recon, but if it persists it might just be worthwhile ringing your bc nurse or the helpline on here just to put your mind at rest, we have enough to worry about at times! all the best

I'm still having some

I'm still having some problems too. It doesn't mean anything is wrong but simply the effect of radiotherapy on the breast tissue- it will improve with time. I had severe pain and acupuncture has helped a lot.

yes it's normal- i am still

yes it's normal- i am still itchy, get pricking pains, the breast is harder and browner- all par for the course- it is the side effect of the radiotherapy, apparently should get better with time. The hospital leaflets tend to only cover immediate problems like skin peeling ,not longer term ones.

me too

i only finished my radiotherapy at the end of feb 08, so still going through the same as you, but finding it abit easier. keep using the cream helps the skin stay soft.

Navelbine / Xeloda

Has anyone had experience taking Navelbine / Xeloda did it work for you.

Hi from new member

Hi
I am Rachel, new to the forum.
I have already learned lots reading the posts on here, thanks all!
I am very fortunate in that my cancer was grade one and they did not put me through chemo!
I finished radiotherapy just before Xmas 2007 and the breast is still sore like yours Maureen. There is still a very itchy red patch underneath the breast and the flesh feels lumpy. I get upset lately thinking that they have "cooked" me and that the breast will always feel alien to me now. Anyone else feel this way? Also its grown 2 cup sizes bigger than the other one which means bras are now a problem!
Do they shrink back eventually?
I know I am lucky, I still have it, almost feel guilty complaining, but would love to share with others in similar stage.
Best of luck to all xxx

radio

Hi. I had surgery 3 days ago. Lumpectomy and sentinal node removal. I have radiotherapy to look forward to. Hope I don't have the same probs as you Rachel. I have enough probs with bras as it is. I wish you all the best. xxx

Bras

Hi everyone,

I've had problems with finding a comfortable bra, especially one that doesn't dig into the lymph node removal scar. I have found an answer..... but glamorous and sexy it ain't! It is called 'The Comfort Bra' and its stretchy, so no cup size but they do back sizes from 32" to 44". They are sold (mail order) by a company called Windsor Products and can be found on www.windsorproducts.com or you can 'phone them on 0871 224 0777. After surgery and radiotherapy one boob is decidedly smaller than the other but this contraption sort of holds it all together!

Regards,

KateG

Breast Cancer and Radiotherapy

Hi I am a new girl to the site.
I finished radiotherapy in November 08 and when the burning sensation after the last treatment subsided all was well until March 09. I now have a lot of pain in my breast area ( I had a mastectomy and full clearance of the lymph nodes) under my arms and in my top rib.
Am on painkillers and had an urgent appt with my surgeon last Thursday who has recommended a bone scan within the next 2 weeks
I had a CT and Bone Scan prior to surgery and chemo. The scans were clear at that time but i am worried to death that the cancer is back.
Would be of comfort if anyone has been through the same.

Sue

Breast cancer.

I just wanted to say hi. I'm new to this too, it just all feels rather alien!!! I came on tonight to get some info on breast pain and have found lots of good information, thanks to all for that. Sue I've not had the same treatment as you, I had a lumpectomy and radiotherapy. It all finnished last month. My breast is still swollen and itchy etc., Having read your question, I realise that there are others going thro' more than me. I wish I could take some of your worry from you. I know you don't know me from Adam. However, You'll be in my thoughts. Wishing you lots of luck.
Carol

Radiotherapy

Hi all

I finished my radiotherapy at the end of January.
I now find I am still reduced of energy and I am gradually get more bra tolerant. But love to take it off when I can!
My boob is still tender in the area where I was especially treated. My last surgery was 4th November 2008.

Veggie xxx

Thanks

Thanks Carol for your support. I am probably worrying over nothing as looking at some of the comments on the site I have been lucky so far as my chemo and radiotherapy went ok.
Will let you know how I get on.

Sue
