cost of cancer
Hello
Here at Cancerbackup and Macmillan we are keen to raise awareness in the press about the cost of cancer and also how isolaing it can be.
I'd love to hear from you, if you have struggled with the financial cost as you or a loved one have cancer. Maybe you couldn't pay the mortgage for example?
Also, I'd love to hear from you if you felt isolated on your cancer journey. Perhaps you were far away from loved ones in hospital or felt no one understood how you felt?
If you identify with either of these please email rgarnett@macmillan.org.uk or rgarnett@cancerbackup.org
Many thanks
Rachel

As it was some time ago I deleted it, but I am certain that I talked about the instantaneous isolation one is plunged into by cancer. I went from meeting over one hundred people a day, to seeing only a couple of taxi-drivers, a few fellow patients and the radiotherapy team. Then I was back home to the rest of the day until my partner arrived home. I felt too ill from the chemo to go out, and of course all of one's friends are at work.
The moment I told one of my bosses that I was terminal, the "Employee Well-Being" Department gave me the elbow. I thought that this was a standard proceedure, but a registrar was surprised when I told him a few weeks ago, and said, "Why?" Why indeed, as I know that I could have continued working part-time. I think that there is a lot of prejudice against us "terminals", as if we have nothing left to give - quite a mentally isolating sensation.
