DOWNING STREET PETETIONS - SIGN AN ALL ENCOMPASSING PETETION NOW!

DOWNING STREET PETETIONS - SIGN AN ALL ENCOMPASSING PETETION NOW!

We all know the inequality that surrounds the receipt of tretament / drugs as a result of The Governments "restrictive financial criteria" and it's interpretation by local PCT's resulting far too often in the refusal to supply drugs / treatment purely on the grounds of COST!

You will also be aware of the current Petition recently placed by "Tomdog" which I and others have supported.

HOWEVER.....are you aware that there are currently 8 pages of Cancer related Petitions on the Downing Street web site - is it therefore any wonder that the Government can simply ignore petitions about Cancer, which each receive a few hundred signatures
whereas those that ask "xyz" receive thousand's.

WHAT IS NECESSARY IS FOR EVERYONR INVOLVED IN CANCER TO SUPPORT A SINGLE MEANINGFULL PETiTION!

I thought of devising one but have discovered the following existing one which I think fits the bill as far as drugs (and thereby treatment) is concerned)...if you agree
SIGN IT ..... AND FORWARD IT TO EVERYONE YOU KNOW (and even to those you don't)

The petition reads

"We the undersigned petition the Prime Minister to Agree that if a Cancer Drug works, then it should be freely available on the NHS". More details

Submitted by Paul Miller – Deadline to sign up by: 03 August 2008 – Signatures: 1,365

Hi Matt - I must have signed this one already

As it let me give my details but did not come back to me with confirmation email - presume they filter so somebody doesn't sig over and over again. However you are right to draw it to everyone's attention once more. Do you think the Cancerbackup Team would place this on the front page so everyone can see it? xxx Penny

CAN ANYONE GET A CONFIRMATION E MAIL

Penny,

I am not sure whether No 10 is blocking signatures, when I saw this petetion I was certain I had not seen it before - so I logged in to sign then came back here and posted the thread.

I have since opened my E mails and like you no confirmation e mail from No 10.......

CAN SOMEONE WHO HAS DEFINETLY NOT SIGNED UP PLEASE TRY AND LET US NO IF YOU GET A CONFIRMATION!!

You may have also seen Barry Humphries on Anglia News regarding refusal of Norfolk PCT to fund SORAFENIB, the article ended with THIS PETETION so by now there should be a heck of a lot more signatures - so what is happening???

See you at Buxton

Matt

Something else weird Matt

I posted the prescriptions one to my Facebook, and messaged everyone to sign that petition. A couple of people did - and then people starting coming back saying it was closed. Do They shut it off if they think it's going to get a lot of signatures? I used to work for a Labour-controlled Local Authority. They closed the museum I worked for and we KNEW that quite a number of petitions and letters had been "disappeared". The offical form was so confusingly worded that people weren't sure which way they were voting. Their response to the volume of complaints about the museum closure was - to close us down earlier than originally planned, as that way the complaints would have no focus. So I know how Their minds work... or am I just being cynical here? xxx Penny

Signatures are recorded - BUT STILL NOT MANY

Was still intrigued about the recording on PM site especially as Kate posted her message yesterday, so I checked and 3 minutes ago there were still less than 1400 signatures - but I discovered the "view all signatures" button - clicked and yes there I am ages ago together with 50 of my friends who signed immediately after my round robin to them.

So I guess I owe the Government an apology for ever doubting them - I mean they don't mislead us ......do they?

Matt

THANKS KATE FOR CLEARING THE POINT!

Matt - don't think should rush to apologise

Have just looked at the site recommended by Steffy - the doctors' forum for getting fair shares for all respective of postcode, ie against the barrier against the "top up". Noted on there that number of NHS managers are increasing at three times the rate of medical staff. Average hospital waiting times are rising. In France and Germany, there are no waiting lists at all... Shall I continue? xxx Penny

The petition has a sell by date of August 3rd

Have to get as many people to sign ASAP the petition closes on 3rd August, so tell everyone in your address book to sign up, ir could happen to them.

Steffy

Do the maths people

This petition needs to get 50,000+ to trigger a response from the PM. I know it sounds a lot but hey One million is 10 to the power of 6 so surely if we all can send it to 10 friends and ask them to do the same we must be able to get near the required amount if not more.
If you have any opportunity to get it out there ie newspaper articles and such get the web link on to it any way you can to as many people as you can
Good luck all
Tom

DOING THE MATHS AND CANCER BACKUP SUPPORT AND TREATMENT ABROAD?

Point is very well made Tomdog!

Knowing that there are so many threads on this site and I believe there is over a thousand users A QUESTION FOR THE SITE HOSTS.......CAN A PM BE SENT TO ALL SITE USERS HIGHLIGHTING THIS PARTICULAR PETETION......after all it directly affects everyone with cancer.

THe other point about waiting lists and treatment in other EU countries highlights what a farce our NHS has become. We always hear about people coming to this country for operations perhaps it is time for Cancer Patients to start opting for treatment in France, Germany etc........I wonder where Article 2 of the Human Rights "The Right to LIFE" stands when EU approved drugs are refused on cost grounds - have we any MEP's / Solicitors etc that have been affected by Cancer that could give a thought to this?

petition

hi matt
i have signed the petition and i am number 2539. i have also passed on the link to all the poeple i know on the net. every bit helps. i would like to know what the final count is

DO THE GENERAL PUBLIC ACTUALLY AGREE?

Great Paulo - Just looked at the PM site and noticed petetion is now on 2,543 signatures.

Considering the British population is 60 + million and we are told that 1 in 3 will in some way be affected by Cancer I just wonder whether in fact the public think we should all stop complaining and just pay, pay, PAY!

Take a look at the numbers that have signed the following recent top petetions;

1) Allow the Red Arrows to Fly at the 2012 Olympics (420430 signatures)

2)give all Ex Gurkha soldiers and their families who have served our country British citizenship on leaving the service. (25081 signatures)

3)instruct water companies to return to charging churches as charities rather than as business premises. (20414 signatures)

4)Stop ISP's from breaching customers privacy via advertising technologies. (14912 signatures)

5) Remove the unfair and unjust retrospective Vehicle Execise Duty levy (back to 2001 year vehicles) as announced in the Budget on 12/3/08 (14602 signatures)

PERHAPS WE ARE ALL FALLING INTO ANOTHER GOVERNMENT TRAP BY EVEN THINKING THAT THE PETETION ROUTE WILL EVER DO ANYTHING....APART THAT IS FROM ALLOWING THE GOVERNMENT TO QUOTE PETETION FIGURES TO SHOW THAT THE MAJORITY OF THE POPULATION ARE FULLY SATISFIED WITH EXISTING ARANGEMENTS.

Am I statrting to sound pessimistic?

Matt

Most people who are well don't want to think about this!

Most people have almost a superstition about cancer, and can't bear to think about it. I have seen people with laden shopping trolleys march straight past an elderly chap collecting money for children's cancer. It is only when there is a person they can identify with spearheading a campaign that it takes off. I don't think that people would be happy to pay, just that they don't want to think about anything bad - you know: "All we want is a limousine and a ticket for the peepshow" (Louis MacNeice, Bagpipe Music). Substitute Red Arrows and Big Brother for 2008 I should think.

I'm sorry but I have never trusted Labour Government Official Petitions since my experience of them closing the Museum I worked in. Firstly petitions by the public were disallowed. No notices or verbal communication about the cloure was permitted. The figures they used to justify the closure had been manipulated. The official voting papers were so convoluted, with wording almost the opposite of what people thought it was saying. Certain consignments of papers were never collcted. The local press becoming involved on the side of the museum remaining open resulted in the Council becoming so angry that they closed it 18 months earier than originally planned. I think that the online petition is not the same as gatherning a load of paper and marching to the door of 10 Downing Street. It dies a quiet death, and people get confused as to whether they have signed already or not.

Wish I had the courage of my childhood hero Jan Palak. What we need is an Action-capitalA to get this into the news and embarrass the government.

By the by the Guardian ran an article tipping this on its head, saying why should the country pay when the drug companies are charging such exorbitant prices? This is potentially another stick to beat us with. xxx Penny

Petition

Signed it..x better not go missing mr brown!!!!

A friend of mine said

that she wouldn't sign it because she's have to give her address on-line. Think that's a bit of an illogical excuse as she was getting me to sponsor her for the cancer fun run at same time, and I had to put my address on that! However, it may indicate a certain mind-set of why some people won't sign on-line. xxx Penny

The NHS is in a complete mess over funding for new cancer drugs,PCT's all working differently, some withdrawing care, some not, shambles. Petition

Hi Matt I've just joined the site and have signed the petition. No 10 have sent me a confirmation e-mail which I had to click on to confirm my signature. I joined the site after signing the petition. Good work.

petition

Hi I signed it then sent it to all my friends in my address book I checked a couple of days later and I noticed most of our signatures in the 500 that are showing.

JUST A FEW HOURS LEFT!

Well folks compared to the other petetions we won't, despite all our best efforts, set the world alight - we have secured just under 3,400 signatures, which when you consider just how many people / families are affected by Cancer is really pretty disappointing.

For any that haven't signed up there is just over a fay to go.
