Hello

Hello

Although i have already posted on this site, i thought id say hello and tell you my story so far.

I felt a small pea sized lump in my thigh last year, i was taken to a&e on an urelated problem but asked about the lump. The doctor waved his hands dismissively and said nothing to worry about its a fatty lump. I went on the www to research and found out that they could grow quite big but if they didnt bother you or hurt they were nothing to worry about.

The lump started to grow then started to hurt, i was diagnosed this year with a asarcoma. I had all the usual tests & scans etc.The sarcoma was removed in July in a 10 and half hour operation.I had a Lasstisimus dorsi free flap ( muscle tissue etc taken from my back ) and put into my thigh. The next day i had to go back into theatre for another 3 & half hours as the flap was\failing. I spent over a week in hdu with the temp turned up so the flap didnt die. i couldnt even move my leg for over 2 weeks and then got a dvt which i am taking anticoagulants for it .I was in hospital for 3 weeks, i have had numerous infections in the wound and have had courses of antbiotics. I was taken back into hospital for another op to debride ( take the bad out ) and a course of antibiotics by drip for 5 days. I have been left with 3 open holes on my wound 1 has healed up now they cut bad tissue off when i go to plastics pout patients. I dress the wound myself at home with inadine and gauze i have used actisorb silver but am now back on inadine. I am now waiting for the holes to heal so i can have radiotherapy. my op was on 16th july and i am only just able to potter around without crutches, if i want to go further my dad has loaned me my mothers wheel chair. At the moment i am really fed up and frightened that the delay in getting radiotherapy will let the cancer spread.

Hi Shazzap

I've already posted on your other forum, and wasn't sure there if you were talking about yourself: now I definitely know! Sounds like you have really been in the wars with this. Yet again we have a gp failing to recognise something serious when they see it. Thank goodness you did your own research. I do know of someone whose sarcoma in same place was size of half a chicken by the time it was removed, so you are doing well in comparison! I think the best thing would be to talk honestly about your fears to the hospital, and hopefully they can reassure you, and also explain exactly how much radio you are going to have (answering your other question). So sorry that you are struggling along on crutches for so long - I know what that is like! Wishing you all the very best xxxx Penny
