i need help now!

my dad is terminally ill and has been unwell for about 4 weeks, came out of hospital last week but still no better! he is now refusing his tablets and i need to speak to someone asap! i cannot get hold of the macmillan nurses as the dont work weekends and everyone else is telling me to phone district nurses but its an answer machine, which i left a message 2 and a half hours ago! can anyone give me a number i can phone for advice? i live in manchester, uk

Yes, everything you really need doesn't exist at weekends

I know we had trouble couple of weeks ago, and half of England's Emergency GP Out of Hours server was down, and friend ended up speaking to call centre hundred miles away. However a GP DID come out. Have you tried the Out of Hours number for your Dad's GP? There is also in Manchester some emergency numbers for Walk In centres - g 0161 233 2525 (in Picadilly) and 0161 276 1234 at Manchester Royal Infirmary. Otherwise you could ring 999 and ask for Paramedic explaining that situation has worsened. You should not be left unable to cope at a time like this. England sucks. xxxx Penny

thanks for replying, the

thanks for replying, the distict nurse has just phoned me back and is going to come out to see him but she says if he has been sick she is going to phone the doctor but they will just try and send him to hospital, where he will not go!

You sound at your wit's end, Shellx

Glad District Nurse has got back to you. This must be a really trickly situation, and I can imagine the stress you are under. Do you have support from other members of your family? It highlights the scarcity of Hospices in this country: they have a totally different atmosphere from hospitals, and should be available to everyone who needs a bed, and to provide respite for families struggling to cope. I do hope that your Dad finds peace soon. Thinking about you xxx Penny

Hi Shelli

You poor thing, yes everything does seem to shut down at the weekend!!!!!!!! thank goodness your district nurse is on hand. i wouldn't know what to suggest about your poor Dad, maybe he just feels that he has had enough, and some of us when we feel awful can be a bit stubborn, i often have a temper tantrum and chuck my pills in the bin, poor hubby has to go fetch them back!!!!! (well, why have a dog and bark yourself???????) no, seriously, you have us on here as well for support Shelli, and the chatroom is really quite good, if nothing else it may just put a smile for a while on your face xxxxxxxxxxx also the helpline is very good as well for giving some good sound advice, what part of Manchester are you in?
lots of love
Alisonxxxxxx
