just out of hospital
Hi playmates.
Started my chemo eight weeks ago, then suddently it knocked me for six!!! Taken to A&E and stayed in hospital for 3 weeks. Think it was touch and go, was so ill.
I was told 10 per cent of people do not have the enzyme to break down the chemo. I was one of the 10 percent. My chemo built up and nearly killed me.
Now I am told no more chemo, no other alternative, just cross you fingers and hope for the best. Check up three monthly with blood tests. I have stage III cancer of bowel. Had the tumor removed on 1st April this year.
Does anyone know any other treatment I could try? Don;t fancy just leaving it to luck!
Cheers elizabetta

good gracious that sounds horrendous...what symptoms did you have before going into hospital?
Hi there sorry to hear what you went through. This happened to my mother, she was in hospital for 6 weeks. The are still carrying her on with chemo, but a reduced dose, once a week and its seems to be helping. Dont know if you can suggest this, although I know all chemos are different, and everyone different. They did tell her the same that no more chemo was to be administered, then changed their minds due to my mothers determination.
Wishing you all the best.
Hi
Sorry to hear that you where so ill but glad you have come through it well done!!.
My husband had a terrible time on Capcetabine he was very ill and told told that he couldn't break the chemo down, it was stopped for a couple of weeks, now he has been put back on it at a reduced dose and he is coping with it
What chemo are you on, As Davipau said I know everybody is different but could you not approach them again, and is it worth you getting a second opinion.
I do hope you get somewhere with this. Good luck.
I wish you all the best and lots of love
Tina

Thanks for your replies
I was on FU5 I think it was called. It was a Oxaluplatin/capecitabine drug which was administered in tablet form.
I have now been out of hospital for three weeks and had no more chemo. I am told there is nothing they can give me as an alternative and they won't try chemo again as it nearly killed me.
Now, just have to pray, cross the fingers, and hope it doesn't return but its a bit scary to say the least.
Thanks again for your concern, any new treatment would be of use to me...........thanks. eliz
