welcome lizzyb
i was diagnosed june had op in july have got the all clear but am still scared.
i did love the sun but now i am scared to even go out in it. advice that has been given to me is..
carry on as normal (how do you do that )
its always in the back of your mind
i just apply 30+ sunblock and be in it in moderation(no i dont sunbake any more )but sometimes its great to feel the sun on your face
it took me ages to get my head around and sometimes i feel like i,ll never be the same person again but the more you let it rule your life the worse you make yourself feel.i have been advised by my melanoma clinic to see their counsellor which i will be doing next week.i know you feel like your alone as i did but hang in there and keep your chin up help is always around the corner if you need it.

Hi Kim Really nice of you to

Hi Kim

Really nice of you to reply, yes it is a real shock to the system, but you are right it cant rule your life, i know the mags all say suntans are sooooooo not in but u still tend to look at people that have been away and say to yourself nice tan, or even worse i look at peoples moles nw and think oh my goodness do they know how close they r to something serious. You r so lucky to have a counsellor to talk to i am in northern ireland and although the clinic is good there is virtually no back up unless you look for it yourself, this site is great and we can all share our thoughts and fears. Keep i touch kim

lots of love Lizzyb xxxx

Fake tans

I wouldnt try one, but my dermatologist said it's the best way to look tanned. ALso cover up with light clothing and the use a high factor creams on the bits of skin showing. That's was her advice to me.

sun worship

Hi Lizzie,

I worked outside in the sun for decades thinking nothing of it, now I keep well away from the midday sun and stick to the morning and evening stuff! Some sunshine is important to the inner person and not to mention the health angle, vitamin B12 I think.

On my way home from one of my consultations I stopped in an outdoor shop and bought them out of lightweight, long sleeved, factor 30 shirts, yes there is such a thing!

I don't use any sun cream less than factor 50! I just don't see the point in taking the risk anymore, especially as I love being outside as much as possible, I have a very nice wide brimmed cricket hat too!

These days when I see folk lying out in the sun all day, or worse, having that lobster look after a day in the sun I just feel like wondering over and showing them the big scar on my arm.

Cheers

Pete
