Next “What Now” Get-together

To all those who made Leicester, what a fantastic weekend, to all those who couldn't make it, you missed the best weekend ever.

As this site has grown so quickly, I suspect that future get-togethers will have more guests. To relieve the burden on potential hosts, it has been suggested that we use a hall.

If there is sufficient interest, I can investigate holding an event in Sutton, Surrey, perhaps tied in with the anniversary of “What Now” in March.

There are advantages to this: -

 Location close to London
 Site of Royal Marsden Hospital
 Royal Marsden has a hall which we MAY be able to borrow/use
 Royal Marsden have a local radio station so can provide entertainment
 Local supermarkets all know the hospital so may be willing to donate food/drink/plates etc
 Local ompanies all know the hospital so may be willing to provide some sponsorship

Please let me know if you think this is an idea is worth following up.

If successful we could make this an annual event.

Sharry

Hi this sounds good

Yeah Sharry - good idea as most places have good links to London. Its easier than Southampton which was suggested at the rave. Id definately go for this! Hmmm how many shows can I fit in at the same time .....MammaMia, Billy Elliot.....Sound Of Music....... Jools x

Sharry

Thanks for being so quick to set up the next one. I just felt too tired to come to the Leicester one. I didn't know exactly where to come, and didn't want to say I would if I couldn't. Silly really.

Having a hall sounds like a good idea. Some of us could bring food, or at least drink. I haven't ever heard of a bring your own resulting in illness, but it needs pondering.

Woodlarks, near Farnham might be available for one meet. I went there when I was quite young, and it was a camp for the disabled. I have an idea of one place, in the West Midlands, but it would need a little research.

It is a long time now until March. I'll do a little research and see what can be available between times.

Hi Sharry, this sounds

Hi Sharry, this sounds really good! I am up for it =) xxx

Next Event... Just a few thoughts

The Buxton Rave and Leicester Fiesta were excellent!!

I do like the idea of moving it around the U.K. Geographically it may be difficult for people to get to all events. (Some people may of course be on treatment making travel difficult at a particular time). Thus far people have come from as far afield as Southampton, Cornwall and Scotland!

If on public transport - it' not so easy to bring own food, drink etc.

There are advantages and disadvantages relating to the London area. Hotels and Parking are often VERY expensive - unless there is a block booking deal or a fixed rate Travel Lodge?

The use of a hall might be a good idea - particularly for a winter get-together - but there may be restrictions on own catering allowed and a restriction on the use / supply of alcohol in premises?

A hotel winter mini-break might be possible - if a deal could be struck?

next get together

Tom and I do not mind where the next event is held, we will always travel to wherever it is . I do have a concern that it might get a bit too official , the last 2 events have been held on a very relaxed and informal basis, also this part of the country is not cheap when looking for overnight accommodation, and as an annual event it might leave some people having to travel very long distances on an annual basis, and that can be costly as well, but I do understand the advantages pointed out by Sharry. We will go with the flow on this. Just tell us where it is and we will be there.
Steffy & Tom

So far they have been such a boost

and it will be wonderful to maintain the physical meetings, and involve as many people who wish/are able. Sharry's idea sounds feasible, aand even if it is more official, I suppose that it will get some publicity (might that affect how we feel about it and how relaxed we can be?)
I know what you mean Ruth about not wanting to say yes, then not making it. I suspected I wouldn't feel well enough, then had a burst of energy plus the magnificent Markus and Pusspins in their camper van.

In theory I'd love to go anywhere, but I usually have to rely on public transport - so somewhere not too remote. xxx Penny

Having missed the Leicester Fiesta .................

.......... and hearing what a super event it was, we would love to come to the next event. I think a 'hall' would be great but would reiterate what others have said re: own food, licence to have alcohol etc. London would be fine for us, but I suppose depends on all the additional costs, Midlands may be better.

Perhaps somewhere like a cricket club, where food can be catered and booze will be reasonably priced?

Anyway, happy to go with the flow, and thanks Sharry for thinking about this ........... Jools, I'm with you for the shows, maybe we should make a week of it ....lol !!

it sounded soooooooooo good

I'm sorry i missed what sounded like a fantastic weekend. Being quite new to the site it would have been fab to have met face to face with a few people, but it was just at the wrong time of my treatment.

Would love to join in another one though. The shows do sound like fun as an extra.
