Thinking living the country seriouly...
Hello Everybody,
I was in shock yesterday, and even I cried, when I learnt that NICE didn't aprouve 4 medecine who can help people who suffer from kidney Cancer. No because these medecine don't work, but because they are too expensive....maybe less than each expenditure who receive each Lords, MP, Coucillors, Member of the Governement... in this country (second home, expensive furniture....travel...).
Those medecine are available in Western Europe since more than one year an for free. In this list there is one drug widely used in Colon Cancer in western europe exept...UK...since the NICE rejected the aprouval in 2007. Next review...in May 2009...but if we consider the decision yesterday, we can be sure that our great NICE won't aprouve those medecine in 2009....
Well that's why, after my operation in two weeks time I will prepare my departure of this country....and I am very sad...because I very love this country....
I don't know what happems, but I am very surprised with reaction from the two big organization in this country. Cancer is not just nurses and hospice...but also doctors and latest medecine...Last time in Chelsea, a nurse said I was in the best hospital in UK...well I reply, maybe, but it won't last longer, cos a good hospital could be the better if you don't give the best and lastest treatment for your patient...and I say even the lastest hospital in France where will be better from this year...
I am very angry, and sorry.
Hope you'll undertand my worries.
David
PS : Please excuse my bad english.Merci.

but totally understand why. It is a good thing that you can go over to France and receive the treatment that you need and deserve. We wish you all the very best and hope that you will continue to use What Now from over the Channel.
You are right about their big fat cat salaries and perks, and I hope that they realise that the rest of Europe will be horrified at the primitive level that treatment in this country is being dragged down to.
lots of love, et Bon Chance! Penny
Penny
Hi penny,
It is a high probability...cos my problem I'll loose everything I built in this country. Actually I try to find information about other possibilities, like the E112 form, cos I am French. I am thinking also about one action in Europeen Human Right Court against NICE for manslaughter??(In french I'll say Non assistance a personne en danger, sorry don't know to translate this sentence....), but, maybe the best and practical option is returning in France cos it seems NICE doesn't care ....and your mails won't change anything, just getting a letter...and excuses.
Only a spectacular and strong action could do maybe something...
At the moment my priority is to get the information I need and the operation. Then I'll tell you what will happen after a long chat with my onco....
David
I fully understand your reasons for returning to France, David, would that we could all come with you! But as Penny says, if you do go, please please keep in touch with us and continue to let us know how you are doing!!

Oh Dear I am very sad that you have decided to go back home - but I do understand your reasons. I will miss you too. What date is your operation? Who is going to visit you in hospital? I worry about you all by yourself - for me if you are going home to France I know that you would have more friends and family there who could make sure that you are looked after. Please keep well and look after yourself, and like Marsha says - keep in touch with us all who feel we are also your family. Best wishes, Love Jools x x
I hope you get your treatment in France and wish you all the best. My partner considered returning to Spain earlier in the year as there are many more drugs and treatments available there, then in the UK. It makes me shameful to be British when seriously ill people's human rights are trunced all over by an unelected quango such as NICE. The last thing you need at the moment is to uproot and travel, but if that is what it takes then you must do it without hesitation.

Bonjour David,
I really understand what you are feeling. I am English and living in France and you are so very correct in what you say. I was misdiagnosed in England , nothing wrong they said; over here they rechecked and I had a grade 1 Breast Cancer at stage 3. But the treatment I have had here is second to none. No waiting for test results, they are there the same day, often within the hour. Now I have a heart problem caused by my chemotherapy treatment and that too was sorted out completely. Within hours of visiting my doctors office I found myself with a Cardiac Specialist and everything diagnosed and sorted, left the office with medication in my hands. There is no way I would return to the UK for treatment even though I miss my family and friends so very much, it has been lonely here going through this and not speaking the language but well worth it for the excellent treatment I am receiving. You come home and get the very best you can here David and I wish you all the good luck in the world too. Bon courage mon ami. Emma. xxxxx
Good for you David!
I think it's about time us Brits stood up for our rights and got out on the streets to REALLY demonstrate. Not just a nice little march, but shouting loud.
The French do it, they block ports and roads and demand their rights. Why are we so apathetic here? Our treatment by NICE is a disgrace for a so-called 'affluent' country, who can spend nine billion pound for the 2012 Olympics but trefuse to give the best drugs to their citizens. It makes me absolutely furious. I lived in Spain for some years where the people get out on the streets to object also. Us? We just sit around and take what we are given.
Good luck David, I shall be leaving the country soon as well!

Naturally I like the others wish you all the best David and it will be nice for you to be by your family and friends, I know that I am getting loads of support from mine which I think is just as important as my cancer treatment and I very much appreciate.
The other day I met someone who is from another european country who had a lump which her local doctor said was nothing to worry about. Now living in this country she went to her doctor here who referred her on and now one breast less later she is saying that she feels like suiing her original doctor at home and may well do so when she returns.
Just my comment that is all no wish to offend.
Also if you want to protest you have the right to folks, nothing stopping you get organised and go for it, and dont feel it wont have an effect you will be amazed by the changes (granted over time) that have been made by people protesting, so dont feel you dont have the power to make changes you do!
Cheers and all best to you all
