tomotherapy - integrated IMRT and IGRT
Hi Everyone,
I have done a quite a lot of research on radiotherpy for prostate cancer - all of which has led me to conclude that tomotherapy is quite amazing and the best treatment option available for prostate (...and some other cancers too). There appear to be many centres in the US that offer this highly advanced form of radiotherapy but I have not found anywhere in the UK offering this kind of treatment.
Does anyone know if it is available in the UK, and if so where?
Thanks!
Chuck.

Maybe someone does know, but there is a section on Cancer Backup headed Trials, or Unusual treatments.
All you need to do is ask your oncologist. He should know if you can take part, and where you would have to go for it. If he doesn't, he will know where to look to find out.
I hope your search is rewarded.
Best wishes
Ruth

Hi Ruth,
Thanks very much for your post.
I have actually just replied to Michelle's post in the bowel cancer section (http://www.whatnow.org.uk/cancer-forums/tomo-therapy) before realising you'd replied!
You'll see have found quite a bit more info since my last post. Having done a lot more searching I'm pretty certain the two hospitals mentioned in my reply to Michelle are the only places in the UK this is available.
I'm sure in time more hospitals will invest in this kind of treatment but unfortunately it will be too slow to be of any benefit to me (and many others in the UK!).
I did ask my oncologist and though he hasn't had any personal experience using it he said many of his colleagues who have are hailing it as the best technology available.
Thanks again and best wishes.
Chuck
I saw your post, and I don't like to leave any posts unanswered, even if I know absolutely nothing. It is such a horrible disease that everyone needs some support.
I'm glad you managed to find out enough to make a decision.
