Travel Insurance ;0( help !!!!
Help !!!
I booked the long promised, put off for every excuse previously holiday to Florida.
After what my daughters have put up with and been wonderful about these last few months it was a what the heck lets go for it.
So its booked for July........ ;0)
BUT can I get travel insurance ??? can I heck !!
The original policy starts at approx £50 - absolutely fine, then I have to declare my medical condition. An added premium of , wait for it..... £497.17!!!
What really gets to me is that I dont want insurance to cover my breast cancer, just a broken leg etc etc.
Can anyone help me with anywhere I can contact? This cost is just about the price of a person going to Florida!

Hi Lesley
I have an annual policy which is underwritten by AIG, and this was the response they gave with regards to ongoing cover (this was when I was on chemo, but I've finished now anyway):
"The simple answer is that provided she has been cleared fit to travel then she is covered provided she is not actually travelling to obtain treatment. Similar implied conditions would apply that she takes any appropriate medication and that there is no cover for the ongoing treatment, only for unforeseen emergencies.
A second consideration with Chemotherapy is that it tends to cause ups and downs in the health of the patient. There could be a problem if a holiday was cancelled if insurers felt that it was reasonably predictable that there was a high risk of not been able to travel at the time it was booked.
It needs to be stressed that the onus is on Jayne to ask the question of her doctor before planning to travel, i.e. not just rely on not being told not to"
Might be worth getting a quote from them?
Good luck! You deserve a nice break ...

Hi Lesley,
As my major treatment is finished and I am now up and running, I travel with my breast cancer as an exemption. Which means my insurance is the same as everyone's. Only if I am taken ill as a direct result of my breast cancer I will not be covered. But I certainly would not travel if I had the slightest thought that all was not well.
On the Jeremy Vine show BBC radio two, there was an article about a lady solicitor who had breast cancer and had the same trouble getting travel insurance. So she started up her own insurance co. I have looked on the internet, but cannot remember the correct name. But i'm sure if you contact radio 2 they will be able to help. Or maybe the cancerbackup help line would know who i'm talking about. I will keep digging and let you know if I find anything.
Best of luck
my glass is always half full
thank you
Ill have a look at both these and hopefully will get something Ill let you know

now my being a scouser though no longer living in liverpool, i decided not to even tell our travel insurer, i have had my cancer removed, i am on hormone treatment, so as far as i am concerned i only need cover for an emergency just like you said Lesley, if i broke my leg or arm, we have had the same insurers for many years, so its just renewed automatically. i really do think that this disease is bad enough without being penalised for having had it! Lesley i really hope you get a good deal off one of the insurance companies without getting ripped off, it shouldn't be allowed to happen.
lots of love
