They will not try to influence your course of action, but will be supportive. They will not contact a third party unless you asked them to do so. I think this is an invaluable service when you have terminal cancer, and cannot talk to family or friends openly about what is really going on in your mind about your future.
They are all volunteers, and give up their leisure time, often after working a very stressful day themselves. They are amazing people - my friend is just the sort of person I would like to hear on the other end of a telephone call to a stranger when I am in trouble.
